How We Affect the Community
The CFL process is grounded in the principle “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” We seek to re-establish the belief that individuals can transform their lives if given the opportunity, support, and appropriate resources. These things must be put in place for a returning citizen to succeed and excel.
Our objective at CFL is to promote community safety by offering a progressive transformational program. This way, we prepare returning residents for a successful transition back into the community.
Chance For Life Resource Centers
CFL focuses on fueling workforce development and strengthening family bonds.
Program Overview
CFL provides returning citizens with all the support they will need to qualify, interview, and obtain consistent employment. As a program participant, you will have access to computer training, clothing for interviews, and other resources to assist you with your job search and retention efforts.
CFL collaborates with TJA Staffing Agency, a staffing company focused on executive search and job recruitment. Together, we will provide you with realistic and stable job leads that will allow you to get the best use of your skillset.
Our community of qualified mentors is here to work with you as you embark on your future endeavors. They are here to answer questions, provide guidance, and overall support as you walk the path to success.
Once a family member finally gets home, there is no one there to tell him or her how, where, when, or what to do. People frequently come out of prison thinking little has changed. However, things are usually not the same way they used to be.
This kind of mentality can be the most dangerous part of reuniting with the family as individuals may become increasingly frustrated and angry at the differences. If there were past patterns of violence and abuse, the most likely time it can re-occur is during the reintegration process.
CFL assists returning residents during this time through the Family Group Decision-Making Reintegration Plan (FGDMR), a restorative justice approach to family and community reintegration. This plan provides an opportunity for the entire family to meet with a trained facilitator to develop a written family-based reintegration plan. Having this plan reduces the stress of coming home and ultimately helps to reduce the recidivism rate for our participants.
”We build people, not programs.”

Family Peace Center
Through the CFL Family Peace Center, we provide programming that empowers, enhances, and improves the quality of life for individuals returning from prison. Here, we strengthen economic and community development, expand social awareness, and increase human potential.
Community Services
CFL provides various services to assist you on your new path. These include:
Prevention Services
Although some individuals receive treatment while in prison, substance use/abuse is still a problem among many of the people who are transitioning back into their communities. The use of such substances may cause many problems ranging from health detriments and irrational decision making to conflicts with employers and family members.
CFL works along with the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN) to provide substance abuse prevention services, resources, and training to returning citizens and their families to reduce recidivism. The program will focus on family reintegration and substance abuse relapse prevention.
